Three players recorded hat tricks to power Canisius to a 23-6 victory over Detroit Mercy in collegiate women's lacrosse action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Redshirt freshman Maddie Thore scooped up a team-best three ground balls. Canisius trailed 1-0 early before back-to-back goals from Chimienti sparked an eight-goal outburst that gave the Griffs an 8-1 edge less than a minute into the second quarter.

Smiley momentarily halted the surge with her second of the contest, only to see Canisius notch five of the next six goals to build a 13-3 advantage late in the second quarter. The teams exchanged single tallies to send the Griffs to the locker room with a 14-4 lead.
