Men’s Soccer Falls to Niagara in Final Regular Season Match

Niagara scored twice in the second half to break open a scoreless contest and defeat Canisius, 2-0, in Metro Conference soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Till Rauch and Thomas Brooks accounted for the pair of Purple Eagles' (4-6-4, 3-3-3 Metro) tallies in the second half. Grant Wyles got the start in goal for the Purple Eagles, making three saves to collect his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Adam Schantz started in net for Canisius (2-12-1, 1-7-1 Metro), finishing with five saves.

The two sides played a scoreless opening frame before Niagara opened the scoring just seven minutes into the second half. The Purple Eagles were awarded a corner kick, where Tetsunari Fujishiro found the head of Rauch, who elevated above the Canisius defenders and headed the ball into the upper-left corner to give Niagara the lead.

Niagara padded its lead in the 77th minute as Tommy Mittlestadt won a battle for possession and chipped the ball to an open Brooks. Brooks collected the pass and fired a shot into the upper-left corner, securing the 2-0 victory for the Purple Eagles.
