The Canisius volleyball team closes out its five-match road swing with a pair of conference matches at Iona and Manhattan. The Golden Griffins will play at Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Friday at 5 p.m., on ESPN+, before traveling to Riverdale, N.Y., on Saturday to face Manhattan. The match between the Griffs and the Jaspers will start at 2 p.m., and will be broadcast live on the Jasper Sports Network.Â
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• The Golden Griffins start their annual road trip to the New York City area with an overall record of 2-13 to go with a 1-4 mark in Metro Conference play. Canisius dropped road contests at Rider and Saint Peter's last weekend.
• In the nine total sets against Rider and Saint Peter's, the Griffs recorded 12 service aces as a team, with seven of those coming in the team's five-set loss at Rider Oct. 2. The Griffs rank second in the Metro Conference with their 1.81 service aces per game.
• Junior Emma Isroff was good for 30 total kills last week, with 16 of those coming in Friday's match at Rider. Isroff leads the Griffs and ranks 10th in the league with her 2.69 kills per set this season.
• In 19 sets through the first five league matches of the year, Isroff ranks eighth in the MAAC in total points with 4.00 points per set. In those 19 sets against Metro opponents, she is tied for the conference's lead with 13 service aces.
• Senior Azoria Davis posted a career-high 15 kills in the team's match at Saint Peter's last Saturday. She ended the four-set contest against the Peacocks by hitting .520, and led the team last weekend with her .392 hitting percentage through the two matches against the league's New Jersey based schools.
• Freshman setter Kenslie Warmbrodt ranks ninth in the Metro with her 5.13 assists per set.
• Redshirt-junior Julia Lenik had 12 kills and 13 digs in the road loss to Rider for her fourth career double-double performance.
• Iona starts the weekend with an overall record of 8-9 to go with a 2-3 mark in Metro play. The Gaels have dropped two straight.
• Canisius will meet Iona for the 61st time in series history on Friday. Iona leads the series, 31-29, but the Griffs have taken each of the last five matches from the Gaels, dating back to 2022.
• Manhattan is 2-14 overall and 1-4 in Metro play, having lost four straight.
• Canisius leads the all-time series with Manhattan, 41-17. The Griffs have defeated the Jaspers in 16-straight matches, dating back to 2017, and 13 of those 16 victories have come by the score of 3-0.
UP NEXT
Canisius returns home for the first time in the month of October on Oct. 16, when the team plays host to Quinnipiac. That match will begin at 6 p.m., and will be broadcast live on the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network.
