Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Tally Dooms Men’s Soccer at Siena

Benjamin Fogarty converted a penalty kick opportunity in the 75th minute to break a scoreless tie and lift Siena to a 1-0 win over Canisius in Metro Conference men's soccer action Wednesday at Hickey Field in Loudonville, N.Y.

Fogarty's second-half tally propelled the Saints (3-5-4, 1-1-3 Metro) to their first win in conference play. Bennet Glinder picked up his third clean sheet of the season, making three saves. Junior Adam Schantz made the start in net for the Golden Griffins (1-10-1, 0-5-1 Metro), finishing with five saves.

The teams played a scoreless first half with best chance coming in the 19th minute as Siena's Ivan Struk hit the post before Lucas Almeida followed with an attempt off the crossbar to keep the game deadlocked.

The Griffs' best chance of the first half came in the 24th minute. Larry Jimenez received a pass in the middle of the box and played a shot towards the goal, but his attempt was cleared off the line by the Siena defense to preserve the 0-0 tie heading into halftime.

The Saints came out of the halftime break applying pressure, outshooting the Griffs by a 16-1 margin in the second half before breaking the deadlock in the 75th minute. Following a VAR review, Siena was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. Fogarty stepped up and converted from the spot to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Fogarty's lid-lifter was all the support Glinder and the Saints defense needed as it kept the Griffs from registering a shot over the final 15 minutes to secure the one-goal victory.
