Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Suffers Loss to Saint Peter’s Saturday

Toby Smith netted two goals to lead Saint Peter's to a 2-1 win over Canisius in Metro Conference men's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Smith recorded a goal in each half to lead Saint Peter's (4-4-4, 2-2-2 Metro) to the win. Sebastuan Heredia-Randen started between the pipes for the Peacocks, making seven saves.

Junior Romero Nicolazzo netted the lone goal for Canisius (1-11-1, 0-6-1 Metro). Fellow junior Adam Schantz started in net, making seven saves.

Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard first in the 20th minute as Connall McErlain played a ball to Harry Edwards, whose shot was redirected by Smith into the back of the Canisius net to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.

The Peacocks carried their advantage into halftime before finding the back of the net again in the 50th minute. Saint Peter's was awarded a throw-in and Samuel Rudjord sent the ball into the box, where Smith got a foot on it and netted his second goal of the afternoon to extend the lead to two.

The Griffs broke through in the 84th minute to make it a one-goal game. Senior Mason Petrucci ran down a ball on the right side before firing a shot on goal that was initially saved by Heredia-Randen. The rebound fell to the foot of Nicolazzo, who cut the Peacocks' lead in half.

Canisius continued to apply pressure late in the contest as junior Gianni Angaran fired a shot just over the crossbar in the 89th minute, but Saint Peter's held on for the 2-1 victory.
