Wickström Stumer Honored with AHA Weekly Award

Canisius sophomore Petter Wickström Stumer has been named the Atlantic Hockey America Goaltender of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.

A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Wickström Stumer turned in a record-setting performance during the Golden Griffins non-conference series at Lindenwood, establishing school and league marks for the most saves in a game as he finished with 72 stops in Canisius' 4-3 win over the Lions in the series finale on Jan. 3.

His 72 saves were the most in a game by a Division I goaltender in the last 10 seasons and the most in a regulation game in the past 20 campaigns. His total also represented the 10th-highest single game saves total in NCAA history.

Wickström Stumer began the weekend with an appearance in the series opener Jan. 2, turning aside 12 of the 13 shots he faced after coming in as a replacement at the start of the third period.

Canisius (9-9-2, 4-6-2 AHA) returns to action Jan. 16 when it opens a home-and-home AHA series against longtime rival RIT. Puck drop for the contest between the Griffs and Tigers is slated for 7 p.m. at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Tickets for the game are still available. They can be purchased by visiting the tickets page on GoGriffs.com, calling 716-888-TIXX or by visiting the ticket kiosk at LECOM Harborcenter on gameday.
