Kahlil Singleton Named MAAC Player of the Week

After averaging 28.5 points per game in a pair of home wins over Fairfield and Sacred Heart, Canisius junior guard Kahlil Singleton has been named the Air Force Reserve MAAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Singleton scored a career-high 37 points in the Golden Griffins' win over Fairfield on Jan. 2, after he went 11-for-16 from the field, 9-for-12 from 3-point range and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line in 40 minutes of action. His 37-point performance, which is tied for the third-most points by a Canisius player at the Koessler Athletic Center, was his second game with 30-or more points scored this season. As of Jan. 5, the Vancouver, Wash., native is one of two players in the nation to have scored 30-plus points and hit eight-or more 3-point field goals in multiple games this season after he posted 33 points with eight treys in a win over Binghamton on Nov. 23.

On Sunday, Singleton played a key role in the Griffs' comeback win over Sacred Heart, as he scored a team-high 20 points to go with four rebounds and two steals. In that game, which Canisius trailed by as many as nine points in the second half, Singleton went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line, and his lone 3-point make with 5:08 remaining in the contest helped give the Griffs their first lead of the contest.

Singleton, who leads the team with his 13.7 points per game scoring average, currently ranks first in the MAAC and 33rd in the nation with his 3.1 3-point field goal makes per contest. He is the first Canisius player to be named the MAAC's Player of the Week since Jasman Sangha was honored on Dec. 16, 2024.

Canisius, which has won three of its last five games, is 7-8 overall and 2-2 in MAAC play. The back-to-back wins over Fairfield and Sacred Heart are the team's first back-to-back MAAC regular season victories since Feb. 23 and March 1, 2024.

The Griffs will return to action Jan. 9 and Jan. 11, with a pair of conference road games, starting at Manhattan on Friday night. Tip-off at the Draddy Gymnasium is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
