Jones Paces Indoor Track at YSU Mid Major Invitational

Senior Brody Jones set a school record in the 1000-meter run to pace the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams at the YSU Mid Major Invitational Saturday in Youngstown, Ohio.

On the men's side, Jones earned a first-place finish with his record-setting performance in the 1000-meter run, crossing the line in 2:27.53. Jones broke a record previously set by James Bialasik in 2001. Freshman Jacob Granville (2:36.19) placed ninth in the event. Jones also placed fifth in the 3000-meter run, setting a personal record with a time of 8:35.82. Sophomore Fenway Breckels (8:36.53) finished just behind Jones in the same event, placing seventh.
 
Jones record-setting performance highlighted a trio of first-place finishes for the Golden Griffins. Reigning MAAC
 Rookie of the Week Jaxyn Mahoney posted another strong performance in the one-mile run, finishing in 4:22.24 to claim first place and establish a personal record. Following shortly behind Mahoney was sophomore Ryan Giglia (4:23.10), who placed third. Rounding out the top 10 was freshman Jack Nesbitt (4:26.08), who finished in ninth.
 
Canisius also took home two top-three finishes in the 5000-meter run. Senior Kyle Urban became the third Golden Griffin to earn a first-place finish, setting a personal record with a time of 14:31.82. Sophomore Nathaniel Fisher finished just behind Urban in third place, also setting a PR with a time of 14:34.90.
 
On the women's side, freshman Charlotte Keenan set a PR in the 400-meter run, with a time of 59.92, placing seventh. Sophomore Ella Krumpek registered a 16th-place finish in the 3000-meter with a time of 10:54.14. Krumpek also placed 16th in the mile run with a time of 5:27.10.

The Canisius indoor track team returns to action on Feb. 7 as the team travels to Kent Ohio to compete in the Doug Raymond Invitational.
