Indoor Track Opens 2026 Season at the AI Campbell Invitational

The Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams open the 2026 season Friday with an appearance in the AI Campbell Invitational, hosted by Akron at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio.

Friday's visit marks the second-straight season that the Golden Griffins are competing in the AI Campbell Invitational. Last season, sophomore Nathaniel Fisher led the way with a top five finish in the men's 3000 meter race with a time of 8:48.90. Junior Joseph Capuzzo placed ninth in the men's 800m race, crossing the line in 2:06.69.

The Griffs also claimed four of the top 10 places in the men's one mile, including sophomores Adam Kozman (4:28.05) and Fenway Breckls (4:28.34), who claimed seventh and eighth place, respectively, while senior Kyle Urban placed 10th with a time of 4:28.34.

Under the guidance of newly-hired head coach Nick Wilson, Canisius returns top finishers from the 2025 MAAC Championships last season, with Urban, senior Brody Jones and sophomore Ryan Giglia each placing in the top ten of their respective events.

On the women's side, the Griffs are coming off a 2025 indoor season that saw Canisius bring home a silver medal in the women's distance medley relay.

The Griffs continue their indoor track season Jan. 31 when they compete in the SPIRE Midwest Open at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
