Harkess’ Header Stretches Women’s Soccer Winning Streak to Four

Senior Lizzy Harkness scored in 79th minute to break a 2-2 tie and lift Canisius to a 3-2 victory over Iona in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Senior Mia Iacona and junior Jessica Whitaker also scored for the Golden Griffins (4-4-0, 4-0-0 MAAC), who remained atop the league standings with an unblemished league record.

Alli Little and Mikayla Thompson accounted for the two goals scored by the Gaels (2-8-2, 0-4-1 MAAC)

Harkness' game-winning marker came at the 87:07 mark of the contest as she headed home a corner kick from Whitaker on the far post for her second goal in as many contests to put the Griffs back in front.
The game-winner from Harkness came a little more than three minutes after the Gaels had tied the game as Thompson was able to get her foot on a free kick from Marissa Graziano to make it a 2-2 contest.

Earlier in the contest, Little staked Iona to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute as she was able to redirect Dolene Smith's corner kick past Canisius keeper Chloe Tseros for her first of the campaign.

Iacona brought the Griffs level in the 30th minute, heading home a cross from sophomore Azaria Fagan for her first goal of the season. Freshman Ailis Osmond drew a secondary assist on the play.
Whitaker gave Canisius a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute, converting on a penalty kick opportunity after Iona was called for a handball in the box.   POSTGAME COMMENTS GAME NOTES
