Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sacred Heart Ends Women’s Soccer’s Win Streak

The host Sacred Heart Pioneers scored two goals in the game's second half to earn a 3-1 victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins in MAAC women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Park Ave. Field in Fairfield, Conn.

Sacred Heart improved to 5-5-1 overall and 4-2-0 in league play with its second-straight victory, while the Griffs saw their four-game win streak come to an end with the road loss. Canisius is now 4-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in MAAC action this season.

GAME RECAP
Canisius, which trailed 1-0 most of the first half, knotted the game at 1-1 with just 41 seconds left before the halftime intermission on the power of junior Maggie Cregan's first career goal. Cregan settled a loose ball off a free kick in the closing seconds of the opening frame and beat Sacred Heart goalkeeper Kyran Thievon with a shot from the top of the box that went just under the crossbar.

Sacred Heart wasted little time regaining the lead after halftime, as Rylee McGee put the Pioneers back in front at 2-1 just 1:42 into the second stanza. Sacred Heart's Morgan Bovardi tacked on an insurance goal for the home team in the 72nd minute off an assist from teammate Shea Kelleher. The goal was Bovardi's sixth of the season, which is tied for the most on her team and third-most in the MAAC.

Thievon earned the win in goal after she made two saves on the day. Canisius goalkeeper Chloe Tseros made six stops in the losing effort for the Blue and Gold. Sacred Heart held a 16-9 advantage in shots in the match, with a 9-3 margin in shots on goal, and the Pioneers had five corner kick chances against just one for the Blue and Gold.

GAME NOTES
• Wednesday was the fourth all-time meeting between these two schools. Sacred Heart leads the series, 3-1.
