Volleyball Sweeps Le Moyne

Senior Bella Mosquera recorded a match-best 11 kills on 21 attempts to hit at a season-best .476 efficiency to pace Canisius in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-23) sweep over Le Moyne in NCAA non-conference volleyball action Wednesday evening at Ted Grant Court in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins moved to 2-8 on the season with the win in their final non-conference match of the season. Le Moyne fell to 1-8 with the loss.

Mosquera added three service aces and a block assist for Canisius, while freshman Madi Cowan chipped in 11 kills and three digs to the winning effort. Senior setter Ella Bourque was credited with 36 assists and matched a season-high with five kills on her onw, and redshirt sophomore Julia Lenik logged a team-high 11 digs in the victory.

The Griffs won the opening set after the Blue and Gold scored five of the first six points of the night's contest. Canisius closed out the set on a 6-2 run, cruising to the 25-18 victory. In that final surge, Musquera had two kills and a kill by Bourque closed out the frame where Canisius hit .387 as a team.

In a tightly contested second set, the two sides were deadlocked at 21-21 until sophomore Emma Isroff and Cowan teamed up for a pair of kills in a 5-2 Canisius run to secure the set 25-23 for the Griffs.

With the score tied 12-12 midway through the third frame, Canisius used a 6-3 run to create breathing room. A kill by Isroff sparked another 6-3 scoring spurt for the Griffs, who completed the sweep with the 25-21 set victory.
