Softball Falls in Series Finale at Siena

Siena scored multiple runs in three of the game's first four innings and Saints' starter Alissa Eimont recorded her 14th win of the season in the circle as Siena scored a 7-2 win over Canisius in MAAC softball action Sunday afternoon at Siena Field in Loundonville, N.Y.

Siena improved 29-18-1 overall and 13-7-1 in MAAC play with the victory, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 21-23 overall and 11-9 in league play with their sixth-straight loss.

GAME RECAP
The Griffs opened the game's scoring with a run in the top of the first thanks to an RBI-single by senior Rosie Gomez. That was set up by a lead-off double by freshman Tabitha von Kolen, who took the sixth pitch of the game to the fence in left-center for one of her two doubles on the day.

Despite having runners at second and third with no one, Canisius could not add any more runs in the first. Siena answered with three runs in the home-half of the first and then tacked on two more runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, Canisius trimmed Siena's lead to 5-2 thanks to an RBI-single by freshman Vivi Vargas, which plated fellow freshman Cara Edwards. Siena tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the bottom-half of the fourth to cap the day's scoring.

Eimont earned the win in the circle after she went the distance and allowed just two runs on six hits to go with five strikeouts and a walk. Canisius starter Olivia Manchester took the loss for the Blue and Gold after she gave up five runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of work.
