Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Quinnipiac in MAAC First Round

No. 6 seed Quinnipiac scored the final five goals of the game to erase a three-goal deficit and defeat No. 3 seed Canisius, 12-10, in first round action in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Sunday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo. N.Y.

Justin Robbert scored four goals and added an assist for the Bobcats (3-11), who will face top seed Sacred Heart in the tournament semifinals Thursday. Nate Watson chipped in three goals while Mason Oak made 14 saves between the pipes for the visitors.

Sophomore Mason Wolford scored five goals for the Golden Griffins (6-10). Sophomore Jordan Reed finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Junior Micah Hanson went 14-of-24 at the face-off "X" with nine ground balls while senior Tommy Kunz finished with 10 saves.

Trailing 10-7 early in the fourth quarter after Wolford struck twice in a 15-second span to give the Griffs their largest lead of the contest, Robbert notched consecutive tallies to pull the Bobcats within one before Trevor Douglas and Nate Watson found the back of the net just 41 seconds apart to give Quinnipiac an 11-10 lead with just over six minutes to play.

That would be all the support that Oak and the Bobcats defense needed as they held the Griffs off the scoreboard the rest of the way while Glenn Plantania provided an insurance marker with 19 seconds to play to send the Bobcats to the next round.

Earlier in the contest, Quinnipiac raced out to an early 3-1 lead, only to see Canisius answer back with four unanswered goals to grab a 5-3 lead late in the first quarter.

The Bobcats surged back in front with three straight goals to hold a 6-5 edge early in the second quarter, but Canisius scored five of the next six goals to grab a 10-7 lead, setting the stage for the Bobcats' decisive surge.
