Central Michigan Scores Late to Defeat Women's Lacrosse

Central Michigan's Celia Dow scored with three seconds remaining in regulation time to lift the visiting Chippewas to a 14-13 victory over Canisius in non-conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at the Demske Sports Complex.

Dow was one of six Central Michigan players to register multiple points on the day, as the Chippewas (1-6) scored their first win of the season. For Canisius (3-5), freshman Katie Adams scored five goals and junior Meg Hiltz added three goals and an assist in the losing effort.

With the game tied 10-10 after three quarters of play, Central Michigan's Skye DePrado scored one of her team-leading four goals on the day just 45 seconds into the fourth quarter to give the Chippewas an 11-10 lead. Adams answered for the Griffs and gave the Blue and Gold a 12-11 lead after she scored twice in the span of 58 seconds. Adams' third goal of the day knotted the contest at 11-11 with 11:17 left to play, and that came off an assist from teammate Maggie Tifft. On the Griffs' next possession, Adams gave her team a one-goal lead at 12-11 with one of her three fourth-quarter markers. The assist on that goal was credited to Hiltz.

Another goal by DePrado, off an assist from Dow, with 9:11 left in the contest tied the score at 12-12, but Canisius answered 1:50 later, as Adams scored her fourth goal of the game and 10th of the season with 7:21 showing on the game clock. DePrado tied the game for the seventh time with her fourth goal of the day with 4:10 remaining. Canisius' Maddie Fitzgerald had a chance to put the Griffs back in the lead with 1:46 to go when she found a lane, but her shot was stopped by Central Michigan goalie Alexa Martel. On the final possession, Dow circled the Canisius net and found the bottom inside corner with a wrap-around goal to seal the victory.

Central Michigan's Maggie Merrill and Hannah Wenger each scored two goals in the game's first half to help give the Chippewas a 9-6 lead at halftime. Canisius rallied out of the locker room following the break, scoring four-straight goals in the span of 5:30 of game action to take the lead at 10-9. A goal by Central Michigan's Reagan Martinsen with 7:21 knotted the contest at 10-10, setting up for the exciting fourth quarter finish.

Senior Hailey Rooney scored a pair of goals for Canisius, while sophomore Megan Previdi added three assists.
Sophomore Olivia Licardi made eight stops in goal for Canisius, while Martel was credited with seven saves on Canisius' 20 shots on goal.
