Giampa, Payne Recognized as All-AHA Teams Announced

Canisius sophomore forward Matteo Giampa and freshman defenseman Dominic Payne were both recognized as Atlantic Hockey America revealed its all-conference teams on Tuesday.

A native of Virgil, Ontario, Giampa was tabbed All-AHA Second Team for the second consecutive season while Payne, a product of North Vancouver, British Columbia, was chosen to the AHA All-Rookie Team.

The 2023-24 AHA Rookie of the Year, Giampa enjoyed another solid season during his sophomore campaign, leading the Griffs in points (29) and assists (22) and ranked second on the squad in goals (8) during conference play.

Finding himself among the top six players in the league in both points and assists versus league competition, Giampa registered multiple points on seven occasions, highlighted by a career-high five points and four assists in a 6-3 victory versus Mercyhurst back on Oct. 22.

Payne garnered All-Rookie Team distinction after he compiled four goals, seven assists, 11 points and 27 blocked shots in 26 conference games played.

One of only five Canisius skaters to play in all 26 leagues contests this season, Payne became just the second Golden Griffin rookie defenseman in the Division I era of the program to score four points in a game when he tallied two goals and two assists in Canisius' 5-2 victory versus RIT on Jan. 11.
