Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Defeated by Michigan Tuesday

Michigan rattled off 10 unanswered goals over a more than 30-minute stretch on its way to a 16-2 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's lacrosse action Tuesday at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Jack Jenkins tallied four goals and an assist while Ryan Cohen finished with game-high four assists and pitched in two goals to pace the Wolverines (3-2). John Morgan and Nick Roode chipped in two goals each. Hunter Taylor posted eight saves between the pipes for Michigan.

Senior Tommy Kunz recorded a career-high 18 saves between the pipes for the Golden Griffins (0-5). Junior Dylan Collins and sophomore Jordan Reed accounted for the two goals for Canisius while junior Micah Hanson finished 13-of-20 at the face-off X with six ground balls.

With the score tied at 1-1 late in the first quarter, John Morgan and Ryan Cohen found the back of the net before the end of the frame to give the Wolverines a 3-1 edge after the first.

Michigan carried that momentum into the second quarter, as Jenkins recorded opened the stanza with a natural hat trick to highlight a 5-0 frame for the hosts as they took an 8-1 lead into the locker room.

The Wolverines tallied the first three goals of the second half to stretch their lead to 10 before Reed snapped the Griffs scoreless drought with 11:54 play in the fourth quarter.

Michigan notched the final five goals of the game to secure the victory.

POSTGAME COMMENTS
"Today we had the most intensity for 60 minutes that we've had in any of our games this year, which is a good sign and something to build on. Now we've got to learn to eliminate the little mistakes that have ended up in the back of our net at times in early going. But I saw a lot of a lot of positives, especially at the face off X and in goal. A lot of little things that hadn't been going the way we wanted them to did today, so we have some things to build upon as we move forward.

"The entire defensive unit followed the game plan that we put forward the best that we have all season, which was huge. A couple times we had some situations where we went a little rogue and then a few extra turnovers here and there that led to us having to play an extra possession, which when you have to play extra possession or two or defense is going to add up over the course of a 60-minute game.

"Credit to Michigan in the way they rode today. It was more aggressive than we had seen on film from them this year. We had talked in our game prep about some of the adjustments we needed to make and we just we didn't adapt quick enough throughout the course of the game and that give them a few extra possessions which they used to their advantage."
