Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Detroit Mercy

Detroit Mercy's Maddie Camm tallied three goals and added two assists for five points as the host Titans topped Canisius 12-7 in NCAA women's lacrosse action Saturday at Titan Field in Detroit, Mich.

Detroit Mercy improved to 1-2 on season with the win in its 2025 home opener, while the Golden Griffins fell to 1-3 overall.

For Canisius, sophomore Ashlyn Dhandwar scored two goals on the afternoon, while junior Meg Hiltz and sophomore Megan Previdi each added a goal and an assist in the losing effort. Canisius out shot Detroit-Mercy 29-19 for the contest and held a 19-16 advantage in shots on goal.

Canisius took an early 1-0 lead after freshman Mia Estelle scored her second goal of the season just over a minute into the opening frame. Detroit Mercy answered midway through the quarter to tie the game at 1-1 after 15 minutes of play.

Detroit Mercy opened the second quarter with five consecutive goals to take a 6-1 lead before Dhandwar scored her first of two goals on the day with 1:20 remaining before intermission to send the teams into the locker room at the break with Detroit Mercy leading 6-2.

Out of the halftime intermission, Canisius scored two times in the span of 41 seconds in the opening moments of the third to cut the Titans' lead to 6-4. At the 12:15 mark of the quarter, sophomore Maddie Fitzgerald scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on a man-up, free position attempt, and moments later, Dhandwar scored her second goal of the game and her sixth marker of the season off the assist from Previdi.

Hiltz's goal 35 seconds into the final quarter put Canisius down 6-5, but Detroit Mercy answered with the game's next four goals to stretch its cushion back to five at 10-5 with 5:57 remaining in the contest. In that scoring surge, Camm scored twice for the Titans, but the Blue and Gold responded with a pair of goals from Previdi and Maggie Tifft with less than 6:00 left on the clock to get the score back to 10-7 in favor of Detroit Mercy. The Titans closed out the game's scoring by adding insurance goals in the contest's closing 2:19.
