Robert Morris Uses Late Tallies to Defeat Men’s Lacrosse

Robert Morris scored the final two goals of the game to break a 7-7 tie and defeat Canisius, 9-7, in collegiate men's lacrosse action Saturday at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa.

David Burr pitched in two goals to lead a balanced Colonials (3-1) attack that saw eight different players find the back of the net. Calum Brennan tallied a goal and added two assists while Bo Columbus went 12-of-17 at the faceoff X and led all players with seven ground balls. Nate Fletcher finished with 13 saves between the pipes for the home team.

Sophomore Mason Wolford notched two goals and added an assist for the the Golden Griffins (0-4). Senior Jaxon Fridge pitched in a goal and an assist while five players pitched in one point. In goal, senior Tommy Kunz recorded 15 saves for the Blue and Gold.

With the score tied at 7-7 with less than seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Brennan broke the deadlock with his second goal of the contest to give the Colonials the lead.

Kean Moon increased the RMU cushion to two with just under four minutes remaining, allowing the Colonials to close the door as it limited the Griffs to just one shot attempt the rest of the way to secure the two-goal victory.

Canisius held a 3-2 lead at the start of the second half before RMU rattled off four straight goals to grab a 6-3 lead with just over seven minutes to play in the third.

Senior Patrick Mitchell stopped the Colonials third-quarter spurt with his third goal of the season to trim the Griffs deficit to 6-4 heading into the fourth.

A tally from Gavin Pedone in the opening minute of the fourth quarter restored RMU's three-goal cushion, only to see Canisius respond with three straight goals over a nearly six-minute span to knot the score at 7-7 with 7:29 remaining, setting the stage for the Colonials late-game surge.
