Hockey Falls to Niagara on Senior Night

Niagara scored three goals in a 75-second span late in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and record a 6-3 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey America action Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Trevor Hoskin, Noah Carlin and Spencer Young all found the back of the net during the game-deciding surge for the Purple Eagles (17-13-3, 15-8-2 AHA). Tyler Wallace, Lars Rodne and Kyler Klevin also scored for the visitors while Pierece Charleson recorded 38 saves between the pipes for Niagara.

Graduate students Cole Kodsi and Kyle Haskins notched a goal and an assist each for the Golden Griffins (10-21-2, 10-13-2 AHA). Graduate student Alec Cicero recorded the third Canisius goal while freshman Petter Wickström Stumer posted 24 saves in goal.

With the score knotted at 3-3 with less than four minutes to play in the third, Hoskin put the Purple Eagles in front with his 12th goal of the season when he wired a puck over the glove of Wickström Stumer while on the rush.

Carlin added an insurance marker just 54 seconds later with an empty-net goal before Young closed out the scoring with 1:55 to play as he finished off a rush with Klevin to secure the victory.

Earlier in the contest, Wallace staked Niagara to a 1-0 lead just 51 seconds into the contest when he beat Wickström Stumer between the legs with a wrist shot from the slot for his 13th goal of the season.

Kodsi brought the Griffs level with one second remaining in the opening frame when he redirected freshman Luke Marshall's point shot over the left shoulder of Charleson.
Cicero put Canisius in front just 32 seconds into the second period, depositing a cross-ice feed from Kodsi to put the Griffs in front, 2-1.

Rodne answered back for the Purple Eagles just before the five-minute mark of the middle frame, firing a centering feed from Kleven over the glove of Wickström Stumer to tie the game at 2-2.

Haskins restored the Canisius lead less than two minutes after Rodne's tally as he beat Charleson between the legs with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle while on the rush for his team-leading 10th goal of the campaign.
Kleven knotted the contest at 3-3 at the 10:29 mark of the second period when he fired a wrist shot from the top of the point that found its way through traffic and past Wickström Stumer for his second goal of the season.
