Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Duquesne Too Much for Men’s Basketball

Duquesne made 16 3-point field goals, nine of which came in the game's first half, as the host Dukes cruised to 103-59 win over Canisius in non-conference men's basketball action Monday night at UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Duquesne snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory and improved to 7-5 on the year, while the Golden Griffins fell to 5-8 overall with their second-straight loss.

Duquesne's Jimmie Williams led all scorers with 24 points after he went 10-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from 3-point land to go along with seven assists, six rebounds and a steal. Tarence Guinyard added 21 points after he went 7-for-11 from the field, with five of those made field goals coming from 3-point range. Cam Crawford and Jakub Necas added 12 points apiece in the win, as the Dukes shot 59.7 percent from the field, 45.7 percent from behind the arc and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.

For Canisius, junior Kahlil Singleton scored 13 points after he made four of the Griffs' five 3-pointers on the night. Freshman Brendan Oliver added 11 points and five rebounds and fellow freshman Javante Edwards chipped in eight points in the losing cause. For the game, Canisius shot 44.9 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from 3-point land and 55.6 percent from the free-throw line. Canisius also turned the ball over 21 times, which Duquesne turned into 21 points.

Williams and Guinyard combined to score 11 of Duquesne's first 20 points as the Dukes jumped out to a 20-9 lead just 8:14 into the contest. A jumper by graduate student Marcus Niblack trimmed Duquesne's advantage to nine points with 9:14 left before halftime, but Duquesne would not let the Griffs get any closer on the night, as the Dukes scored eight of the game's next 10 points in a 56-second span to push their lead to 31-16 with 7:19 left in the opening half.

Out of halftime, Duquesne used a 12-3 run in the first 2:31 of the second half to drive its lead to 58-33. The Dukes closed the night out by shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the final 20:00, with seven of the 20 field goal makes coming from behind the 3-point line.

HEAD COACH JIM CHRISTIAN'S POSTGAME COMMENTS
"We did not play well in any facet of the game tonight. I thought we were flat from the opening tip, and that's on me to get figured out. Give Duquesne credit, they moved the ball and got open looks, a lot of them from three, and they made them. We have been on the road for a month. We will take a few days off for the holiday and get back to work at the end of the week."
