Gailes Tabbed MAAC Co-Player of the Week

Junior Shariah Gailes was named the Air Force Reserve MAAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Gailes led Canisius with 20 points and eight rebounds in Friday's 65-60 win over Wright State, the second-consecutive victory for the Golden Griffins. The Brooklyn, Ohio, native went 6-for-11 from the field for her second game with 20-or-more points this season.

The Griffs erased a five-point deficit in the final 3:00 before Gailes iced the victory, giving the Griffs a three-point cushion with a pair of makes from the charity stripe, with 11 seconds remaining.

Gailes leads the Griffs and ranks fourth in the MAAC with her 14.9 points per game scoring average and she is tied for fifth in the conference with her 7.5 rebounds per contest. One of three players in the MAAC to boast a field goal percentage of 50.0 percent or higher, Gailes ranks ninth in the league with her 81.8 percent success rate at the free-throw line. Additionally, her 55 trips to the charity stripe through eight games is tops in the MAAC.

Canisius will open league play on Friday when the Griffs play host to Saint Peter's. Tip-off at the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+. Tickets can be purchased online HERE, or at the Canisius Ticket Office on game day.
