Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Bested by Fairfield Saturday

Fairfield used first-half goals from Ashley McMahon and Jess Lynskey to secure a 2-1 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Katie Wright tallied two stops between the pipes for the Stags (9-1-2, 4-0-2 MAAC), who remained undefeated in league play with the one-goal victory.

Senior Mia Iacona notched the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (4-6-0, 4-2-0 MAAC). Freshman keeper Chloe Tseros finished with seven saves.

McMahon opened the scoring in the eighth minute, depositing a loose ball into the left side of the net from the middle of the box for her fifth goal of the season.

Lynskey doubled the Stags margin to 2-0 in the 37th minute when she tapped home a loose ball from close range for her first collegiate tally.

Iacona got the Griffs on the board in the opening minute of the second half, knocking sophomore Mya Jones centering feed past Stags keeper Katie Wright to pull Canisius within one.
That would be as close as the Griffs would get, however, as Fairfield limited Canisius to just two shots on goal the rest of the way to secure the one-goal triumph.
