Volleyball’s Win Streak Comes to an End at Niagara


Niagara's Sydney Wilkes tallied a team-high 12 kills on 26 attempts for a .423 hitting efficiency to help the host Purple Eagles snap Canisius' six-match winning streak in Metro Atlantic Athletic Volleyball action Tuesday evening at the Gallagher Center in Lewiston, N.Y.

Sophomore Emma Isroff recorded a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs to lead the Golden Griffins. Senior Ella Bourque dished out a match-high 29 assists in the loss.

For Niagara, Kinga Wronska helped the offensive attack with 10 kills while Noel Perkins tallied a team-high 19 assists. Mia Schaefer recorded a match-high 23 digs.

With the win, Niagara improves 10-10 (10-2 MAAC), while Canisius fell to 10-12 (8-4 MAAC) with the loss.

Niagara took control of the match early, jumping out to a 20-9 lead. A brief surge from the Blue and Gold narrowed the lead to 24-19 before the Purple Eagles closed out the set on the ensuing point.

Canisius held a 19-15 advantage in the late stages of the second set until Niagara reclaimed control with a 7-2 run to take a 22-20 lead. Canisius battled back to draw even at 24-24 before two-straight points for the Purple Eagles ended the set at 26-24.

A 13-5 run midway through the third set allowed Niagara to complete the sweep with a 25-17 set victory.

MATCH NOTES
• Canisius led the match in aces in nine of the Griffs 12 conference contests.
• Isroff recorded double digit kills for the seventh time this season.
• Bourque added 29 assists to her career total on Tuesday, giving her 3,569 career assists, good for fourth place all-time in program history, sitting 139 assists out of third place held by Janelle Davis.

UP NEXT
Canisius continues a of five-match road swing with Rider and Saint Peter's this weekend. Friday's match at Saint Peter's is slated for a 6 p.m. start on the Peacocks Digital Network while Saturday's 2 p.m. contest will be available on ESPN+.
