Men's Soccer Drops Road Contest to Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart scored three second-half goals to break a 1-1 tie and post a 4-1 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference collegiate men's soccer action Saturday in Fairfield, Conn.

Daniel Losfablos, Brady Poor, and Raffa Mata all struck in the second half while Danny Istambouli scored early in the first half for the Pioneers (7-3-3, 6-0-1 MAAC). Luca Marinelli started in net for Sacred Heart, making three saves.

Sophomore Sydney Aggrey notched his first career tally for the Golden Griffins (4-6-1, 2-3-0 MAAC). Graduate goalkeeper Dom Dominguez got the start in net for Canisius, making six saves.

Sacred Heart opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Johan Bermudez slid a pass through the legs of a Canisius defender to find Istambouli, who slotted the ball into the net to give the Pioneers a 1–0 lead.

Canisius responded in the 41st minute as a cross from sophomore Noah Baumslag found Aggrey at the back post, who headed the ball past Marinelli to tie the game at 1-1.

The Pioneers restored their lead in the 58th minute as a free kick from Istambouli found Daniel Losfablos all alone at the back post, where he headed the ball past Dominguez to give Sacred Heart a 2-1 lead.

Poor added to the Sacred Heart lead just a minute later when his shot from outside the box hit the post and deflected into the Canisius goal to give the Pioneers a two-goal cushion.

Sacred Heart closed out the scoring in the 89th minute, when the through ball from Javier Cayuela Lopez connected with Rafa Matta, who put the ball into the Canisius net to seal the 4-1 victory.
