Mercyhurst jumped out to an 18-15 lead in the second set, thanks in large part to a 7-2 spurt midway through the frame. The Lakers had four chances to close out the set and grab a 2-0 match lead, but the Griffs managed to tie the set at 24-24. Zaucha pieced together three kills in a row to take the second set, 27-25.

Canisius held a 13-9 lead in the third set before the Lakers rattled off five unanswered points to grab a 14-13 lead. The Griffs regained the lead moments later, embarking on a 7-2 run that gave them a 21-18 advantage. Consecutive points from Mercyhurst temporarily halted Canisius' momentum, but the Griffs responded by notching four of the last five points of the frame to post a 25-21 victory and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Griffs never trailed in the fourth set, taking advantage of an 8-2 spurt to open the frame on its way to a 25-13 victory to claim the set and match.
