Manhattan scored twice in the first half on its way to a 3-0 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y.
In the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match of the season for both teams, the Jaspers improved to 3-4-1 overall with the victory. The Golden Griffins slipped to 2-5-1 with the setback in their conference debut.
In a game plagued by the residual effects of Hurricane Helene, the Jaspers found their footing first on the rain-soaked pitch. Controlling most of the possession in the first half, Manhattan opened the scoring on a goal by John Bernardi in the 30th minute.
Sabastiano Musu netted a goal in the 37th minute, his third goal of the season, giving the Jaspers a 2-0 lead heading into the second half.
The Jaspers maintained their control over the pace over the final 45 minutes, increasing their lead in the 78th minute with a goal from Tony Yaboah.
Canisius senior goalkeeper Jack Petrie recorded three saves in the match while Manhattan keeper Ludvig Malberg made two stops in the victory.

• Sophomore Elliott Weber made his first appearance of the season as a reserve in the second half.
• Sophomore Miles Wadiche made his first career appearance in reserve for the Griffs in this contest.
• Manhattan out shot Canisius 15-10, highlighted by a 7-1 corner kick advantage
•Senior Ely Sidibe led the Canisius attack with three shots in the match. Graduate Luke Szablewski tallied two shots as well.
