Men's Soccer Drops Road Contest to Robert Morris

Robert Morris scored five times in the first half on its way to a 5-1 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's soccer action Tuesday at the AHN Montour Junction Sports Complex in Moon Township, Pa.

In the final non-conference match of the season for both teams, the Colonials improved to 5-3-2 overall with the victory. The Golden Griffins, meanwhile, slipped to 2-6-1 with the setback. 

Robert Morris jumped out to an early lead, as Chase Gilley scored twice in a 44-second span during the opening five minutes of the contest.  

The Griffs got on the board with their first shot on goal of the contest when senior Ely Sidibe was able to put one past Colonials goaltender Josh Lane to make it a one-goal game.

Logan Gilley restored the two-goal lead for RMU in the 22nd minute off an assist from Coczulap as he beating senior Canisius goaltender Jack Petrie.

The Colonials grew their lead to three in the 38th minute with a goal by John Paul Mbuthia. Chase Gilley and Pedro Amadou were credited with assists on the play.  

The Colonials closed out the first-half scoring barrage with 1:39 left in the opening frame to make it a 5-1 game as Anass Hadran found the back of the net on an assist by Amadou.

Petrie made two saves in the contest and was replaced by sophomore Kennan King to start the second half, who ended the game with three saves.

GAME NOTES
• Sophomore Kennan King made his collegiate debut on Tuesday, taking over for Jack Petire to start the second half.
• Sophomore Ben Schmidt also made his first career appearance in reserve for the Griffs in this contest.
• Robert Morris out shot Canisius, 19-9, highlighted by a 10-2 shots on goal advantage during the contest. 
•  Sidibe and Albero Reyes led the Canisius attack with two shots a piece in the match.
• A total of 22 different Canisius players saw the field today, which represented a season high. 

UP NEXT
The Griffs return their focus back to conference play on Saturday, coming back home to take on Saint Peter's at the Demske Sports Complex. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
