Volleyball Suffers Defeat at Duquesne

Elizabeth Dreling led Duquesne with 17 kills and her teammate Emrson Schrom added 12 kills and three service aces as the host Dukes posted a 3-0 win over Canisius in non-conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Dukes won the contest by set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-12.

The win, Duquesne's fifth victory at home this season, improved the team to 9-2 on the year, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 4-7 with the loss.

Canisius graduate student Sofia Hedqvist and sophomore Kalia Reisma posted a team-high seven kills a piece for the Blue and Gold, who hit .089 as a team for the contest.

Duquesne took the early 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 victory in the first set. Canisius jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the opening frame before Duquesne took control by scoring seven-straight points. In that run, Dreling and Emerson combined to score four of the Dukes' seven points. Duquesne wasted little time taking control of the second set and led wire-to-wire in the frame, fueled by an early 4-1 scoring spurt.

The Dukes closed out the day with the 25-12 victory in the third set. The Dukes hit .467 as a team in the final frame, where Dreling put down six kills, including the final point of the day on match-point.
