An early goal from junior Meghan Heath sparked Canisius to a 5-0 victory over Le Moyne in collegiate women's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.
The Golden Griffins wrapped up their non-conference schedule to improve their overall record to 5-1-1. The Dolphins, meanwhile, fell to 1-8-0.
Canisius took control of the game in the early going, scoring two goals in the first eight minutes of the contest. Heath got the Griffs on the board in the seventh minute when she headed in a corner from senior Erin Weir.
Sophomore Jessica Whitaker doubled the Griffs' advantage a little more than a minute later, putting home her rebound to extend the Griffs lead to 2-0.
Â
Freshman Azaria Fagan scored her first career goal to make it a 3-0 game right before the end of the first half. Fagan beat Dolphins goaltender Ainsley Napolitano after receiving a pass from graduate student Alicia Zamora.
Â
The second half saw the Griffs again score twice in the span of two minutes, starting with a strike from junior Mia Iacona in the 53rd minute with assists from senior Sophia Konstantinou and Weir to make it a 4-0 contest.
Â
Senior Madeline Weltin closed out the scoring just 66 seconds after Iacona's tally, beating Napolitano 1-on-1 to determine the final margin and give Weir her third assist of the night.
Senior keeper Jordan Spencer did not see any action until the 86th minute as she recorded her four shutout of the season.
