Heath, Oliphant Tabbed Preseason All-MAAC Team, Women's Soccer Selected Third in Preseason Poll

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced Wednesday that Canisius has been selected to finish third in the MAAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. In addition, senior midfielder Emma Oliphant and junior defender Megan Heath were tabbed to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
 
The 2023 season saw the Golden Griffins post a 9-4-5 overall record and record a 6-2-2 ledger in MAAC play to earn a No. 3  seed in the MAAC Championship. The Golden Griffins allowed the least amount of goals against in the MAAC last season (13).
 
Oliphant was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team for the second consecutive year. The senior returns to the lineup after posting four goals and a team-leading four assists for 12 points during her junior campaign. The Burlington, Ontario native started all 18 games Canisius played last season and was selected to the All-MAAC First Team.
 
Heath is coming off of a sophomore season that saw her play a team-high 1582 minutes and get named to the All-MAAC Second Team. The Medina, Ohio native also scored her first career goal that also served as her first career points.
 
The Griffs received 126 points and one first-place vote in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, trailing defending tournament champion Quinnipiac who received 10 first-place votes with 166 total points. Trailing closely behind was Fairfield with 1 first-place vote and 152 total points.
 
The Griffs are set to open the season Aug. 22 at home versus Binghamton. Kickoff at the Demske Sports Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.
