Schickling's 72 Leads the Way for Golf at Colgate

Sophomore Alex Schickling fired an even-par score of 72 to lead the Canisius golf team in the first round of the 2024 Alex Lagowitz Memorial Saturday afternoon at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, N.Y.

As a team, the Golden Griffins sit in ninth place out of 15 teams after the first 18 holes of the tournament. Heavy rain and thunderstorms rolled into the Central New York area just about an hour after play started on Saturday, forcing the tournament to be adjusted to a 36-hole event, with 18 played on Saturday and a final round on Sunday.

Schickling's 72 on Saturday matches his second-lowest career round, as he also shot a 72 last fall in the second round of the 2023 Little Three Championship. He was one of four players to shot 72 on the day and is tied for 11th in the field. Fellow sophomore Jake Dantonio and senior Ryan Edholm both shot 74 on the day, and both players are tied for 18th after the first 18 holes of action.

Navy and Yale are tied atop the team leaderboard after the first round with team scores of 289, followed by Seton Hall and Colgate, which are tied for third with team scores of 291. Canisius sits in ninth with a team score of 297, which leaves the Blue and Gold two strokes back of St. Bonaventure and Le Moyne.

The final round of the Alex Lagowitz Memorial will tee off at 9 a.m., on Sunday.
