Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw With Youngstown State

Graduate student Alicia Zamora scored on a penalty kick to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw against Youngstown State in intercollegiate women's soccer action Thursday at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Golden Griffins move to 1-0-1 on the season, while the Penguins now stand at 1-1-2.

The Griffs got off to a quick start, peppering YSU goaltender Maya Naimoli with four shots on goal from juniors Mia Iacona and Skylar Cornell and senior Emma Oliphant before striking first. Oliphant would draw a foul in the box, which would lead to a penalty kick goal from Zamora in the 21st minute.

Canisius attempted to add to its lead in the first half, but couldn't capitalize on the chances, settling for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Youngstown State drew level at the 62:38 mark with a goal from Tatum Gretz on a shot that would originally hit the crossbar and deflected off of Canisius goaltender Jordan Spencer and into the net.

The Penguins defense would only allow one shot on goal in the second half coming off the foot of senior Madeline Weltin in the 76th minute.
