GAME ONE RECAP
After striking out the side to close out the bottom of the first inning, Giese helped her own cause in the top-half of the second inning with an RBI-triple that plated Ilano as the Blue and Gold's first run of the day. Moments later, sophomore Gabi Farris gave the Griffs a 2-0 after she scored on a fielding error by Iona's infield.
The Gales cut Canisius' lead in half to 2-1 in the home-half of the second with a solo home run, and later in that frame, the Gaels had a runner at third base with one out, but Giese fanned back-to-back batters to get out of the jam. The second inning would be the only frame in the game where Iona had a runner reach third base - as Giese held the Gaels' bats in check through the remainder of the contest en route to her team leading 11th win in the circle. Giese earned the complete-game victory after she allowed just one run on five hits to go with 12 strikeouts and three walks.
Canisius regained its two-run lead in the top-half of the fourth thanks to an RBI-triple off the bat of sophomore Morgan Cook, and then the Blue and Gold made it a three-run lead in the fifth after Fazzolari drove in teammate Madysen Burkey with an RBI-double to the gap in right-center. In the seventh, Canisius tacked on three insurance runs to take the 7-1 lead, highlighted by a two-run double by Cook that allowed Ilano and freshman Ella Johel to score.
