Nusseibeh Named Head Coach at Eastern Michigan

Sahar Nusseibeh, the head women's basketball coach at Canisius from 2021-24, announced Thursday (March 28) that she is stepping down from her post on Main Street to accept the same position at Eastern Michigan University.

"We hired Sahar here in the summer of 2021 to reenergize our women's basketball program and she has done that," Canisius Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Bill Maher said. "During her time leading our program, she has improved the team steadily while also being a positive influence within the athletic department, our campus and within the Buffalo community. Sahar was a tremendous mentor to the young women in our basketball program and she worked extremely hard to reconnect with our women's basketball alumnae. We are grateful for her contributions to Canisius and wish her well in the next chapter of her coaching career."

Nusseibeh led the Golden Griffins to 32 total wins in three seasons, highlighted by the team's 17 victories in 2023-24. Canisius won 11 MAAC games last season and advanced to the 2024 Hercules Tires MAAC Women's Basketball Championship semifinal round, the program's first semifinal round berth since 2009. During her time leading the program, she recruited and coached multiple All-MAAC honorees, including the MAAC Sixth Player of the Year and 21 MAAC All-Academic Team selections.

"I am confident that the next leader of our women's basketball program will help continue the upward trajectory of our women's basketball program, both on and off the court," Maher said.

A national search for the Griffs' next head women's basketball coach will begin immediately.
