Canisius Athletics Announces Partnership with Leveling the Playing Field

The Canisius athletic department announced today that it has partnered with Leveling the Playing Field to donate new and gently used sporting equipment directly to children in need.

Starting Friday, Dec. 6, Canisius will collect sports equipment donations in the lobby of the Koessler Athletic Center at each of the next two home men's basketball games. For a list of accepted items, please CLICK HERE.

Leveling the Playing Field was founded in 2013 in response to the growing inequity between those who can afford to play sports and those who cannot, and the prominent role the cost of sporting goods played in that gap.

After working in youth sports, college athletics and professional football, Leveling the Playing Field founder Max Levitt realized the volume of equipment that goes to waste from elementary school-aged kids up to our professional sports franchises.  In response, he decided to develop essentially a food bank for sports equipment. The Canisius men's basketball team will open its three-game homestand Dec. 6, against Merrimack, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m., at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs are also set to host Siena (Dec. 8) and Maine (Dec. 14), with both of those games slated for a 1 p.m., start.
