Maime Krubally recorded 15 kills while hitting at a .520 clip to pace top-seeded Fairfield in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 28-26) victory over No. 4 seed Canisius in the first semifinal of the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Saturday at the UHY Center in Loudinville, N.Y.

Graduate student Sofia Hedqvist notched a team-high 10 kills for the Golden Griffins (17-14) while junior Ella Bourque dished out 23 assists. Defensively, senior Emma Mans tallied a career-high tying six total blocks.

Fairfield claimed the first set with a 25-17 victory. The teams traded points in the early going before Fairfield settled in, using an 8-3 stretch during the frame to secure the opening set victory.

In the second set, Canisius forced an early timeout from the Stags, leading 11-7. The Stags responded after the timeout, piecing together a late 15-3 run to post a 25-18 victory and take a 2-0 lead.

The Stags mounted yet another comeback to claim the third set and complete the sweep. With Canisius holding a 21-18 advantage late in the frame, the Stags fought back to tie the set at 23-23. The two sides exchanged points before Fairfield used back-to-back kills to close out the frame, 28-26, and advance to the championship.
