Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sidibe’s Two Goals Allow Men's Soccer to Tie Fairfield

Senior forward Ely Sidibe scored twice in less than ten minutes to bring Canisius back from a two-score deficit and earn a 2-2 draw against Fairfield Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn.

The Golden Griffins (3-8-4, 1-3-3 MAAC) earned a point with the draw, bringing their conference point total to six on the season. The Stags (3-5-8, 2-2-3 MAAC) keep their postseason hopes alive with the tie, leaving them tied for eighth place in the conference standings.

The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams failing to put the ball into the net in the first half. Sophomore Mason Petrucci registered the only shot on target in the first half in the 24th minute.

The second half began with a furious pace with both teams combining for four goals in the first 27 minutes of the period. The Stags' Kris Naicker started the scoring in the 51st minute, followed shortly by a goal from Brett Seig in the 58th minute.

The Griffs got back into the contest from the combination of Petrucci and Sidibe. Two minutes after the second Fairfield goal, Petrucci looped a pass over the backline of the Stags to a streaking Sidibe, who tapped the ball past the Fairfield goalkeeper to make it a one-goal game.

With the lead cut in half, the Griffs earned a corner kick in the 67th minute. Petrucci took the corner set piece and put the ball right on target, allowing Sidibe to score on the header.

Both teams frantically looked to break the tie as time began to expire. The Griffs outshot the Stags in the second half, 10-6, culminating in a last second-shot attempt by senior Dylan Rice that was narrowly blocked by a Fairfield defender as time expired.
