Volleyball Surges Back to Beat Siena, Secures Fourth Seed

Trailing 2-0 and facing match point in the third set, Canisius rallied to earn a 3-2 (14-25, 20-25, 30-28, 25-22, 15-13) come-from-behind victory over Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action Sunday at the UHY Center in Loudonville, N.Y.

With the win, the Golden Griffins finished the regular season at 16-13 overall and 12-6 in MAAC play, securing the four seed and a first-round bye in the 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championship, scheduled for Nov. 21-24 at the UHY Center. The Saints ended their 2024 campaign at 6-24 overall and 5-13 in conference action with the loss.

Siena took control of the match in the early going, winning set one by a score of 25-14 before claiming the second set, 25-20, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Trailing 24-21 in the third set and facing match point, Canisius tallied three straight points to knot the match at 24-24 before using a pair of kills from sophomore Lauren Hubert moments later to score a 30-28 triumph and force a fourth set.

In the fourth set, the Griffs used a 13-4 run midway through the frame to erase a three-point deficit en route to a 25-22 victory and a fifth set.

During the fifth and final set, Canisius rattled off five unanswered points to build a 10-8 cushion, only to see Siena respond with three of the next four points to tie the match at 11-11. The teams traded points until, with the score tied at 13-13, Hubert and senior Emma Mans tallied back-to-back kills to secure the 15-13 victory and complete the reverse sweep.

Hubert recorded 21 kills in the win, tying her career-high while senior Kara Zaucha added 14 kills to the winning effort. Senior Jillian Hanna led the way with a match-high 28 digs.

For Siena, Sara Wagner notched a team-high 18 kills while teammate Claire Isaksen dished out 30 assists. Salme Adeele Hollas tallied a team-high 20 digs in the Saints' final match of the season.
