Men’s Soccer Ties Saint Peter’s, 1-1

Junior Michael Switala netted his fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw versus Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Saint Peter's Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

The draw moved the Golden Griffins to a 2-6-2 overall record and a 0-1-1 MAAC ledger while the Peacocks claimed their third tie of the season, seeing their record shift to 0-7-3, with a 0-1-1 mark in conference play.

The Peacocks were the first to get on the scoreboard, scoring in the 6th minute off a penalty kick. Conlan Paventi put the ball out of reach of sophomore goalkeeper Kennan King, giving Saint Peter's the lead with its only shot on target of the game.

Canisius looked to even up the score before the end of the half, out-shooting the Peacocks 7-2 before the break. Switala was able to break the drought after receiving a pass in the Saint Peter's box from sophomore Mason Petrucci, who collected his second assist of the season.

Despite the Griffs out-shooting the Peacocks by a 13-2 margin in the second half, the deadlock remained at 1-1 until the final horn blew.

The Peacocks goaltender, Pedro Alves, recorded nine saves in the match while King did not register a save in the contest.
