Women's Soccer Continues Hot Streak With Win Against Marist

A pair of penalty-kick goals just 19 seconds apart midway through the first half from graduate student Alicia Zamora led Canisius to a 3-0 victory over Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Golden Griffins improved to 8-1-1 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 5-0-0 with their seventh straight victory. The Red Foxes, meanwhile, fell to 2-7-2 overall and 2-3-0 in MAAC play.

Canisius' first two shots of the game came off the foot of Zamora on her penalty kicks in the 30th minute. The first came from a foul on Red Foxes goaltender Maddy Catalanotti, followed moments later by a yellow card in the box on Maille McDermott.

The Griffs extended their lead to three in the 61st minute with a goal from senior Madeline Weltin, who found the back of the net for the fourth straight contest on a pass from junior Skylar CornellSenior Emma Oliphant was credited with the secondary assist on the play.

The three goals were more than enough for the Griffs and goaltender Jordan Spencer as the Red Foxes only registered one shot in the second half on way to Spencer's sixth shutout of the season.
