Women's Soccer Falls to Quinnipiac

A first half goal from Klara Bengtsson led Quinnipiac to a 1-0 over women's soccer in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Golden Griffins fell to 9-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play, as they dropped their first conference game of the season. The Bobcats improved to 9-2-1 overall and 7-0-0 in MAAC action with the win.

The Bobcats struck first in the 27th minute when Bengtsson received a pass from Molly Andrews and was able to beat Canisius goalkeeper Jordan Spencer bottom right to gain the 1-0 advantage.

The Griffs had various chances in the first half, highlighted by an Alicia Zamora shot in the 30th minute that deflected off the top woodwork and out of play, but could not beat Bobcats goalie Sophia Lospinoso.

The Canisius defense did not allow a single shot in the second half, while the Blue and Gold's offense recorded nine shots of their own, including their first shot on goal of the contest from senior Emma Oliphant in the game's 85th minute, but could not find a way past Lospinoso.
