Baseball Finishes Regular Season with Victory at Marist

Junior Max Grant went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI to pace Canisius to an 11-2 victory over Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference baseball action Friday at the McCann Baseball Field in Poughkeespie, N.Y.

Two of Grant's three hits on the day went for extra bases as he recorded a double and a triple to pace a Golden Griffins (24-23-1, 16-8 MAAC) lineup that finished with 13 hits on the day. Sophomore Trent Rumley also finished with three base knocks while graduate students Dylan Vincent and Kyle Kush chipped in two hits each.

On the mound, four Canisius pitchers combined to limit Marist to just four base hits and three walks. Redshirt sophomore Justin Guilano was credited with the win to improve to 2-4 on the season. Pitching three shutout innings in relief of starter Andrew Fron, Guilano allowed just two hits while striking out four.

Justin Kapuscinski recorded a home run and a double to lead the Red Foxes (16-36, 10-14 MAAC). Maroc Ali and Colin Mackle accounted for the other two Marist hits in the contest.

Brian Yetter took the loss for the home team, moving his record to 2-7 on the season. In 4.2 innings of work, Yetter surrendered four runs (all earned) on five hits and two walks. He struck out three.

Canisius jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its first trip to the plate. Senior Brennan Chisholm opened the scoring with a solo home run while Grant plated the second run of the frame on a double that allowed sophomore Jackson Strong to score. Grant would tally the final run of the opening frame when he stole third and scored on the play following an error by the Marist catcher.

Marist got on the board in the bottom of the second, using a solo blast from Kapuscinski and a run-scoring double from Mackle to make it a 3-2 game.

An RBI single off the bat of Kush in the visitors' half of the fourth gave the Griffs a two-run edge before adding two more runs in the sixth to expand their cushion to 6-2. Grant scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch senior Kenny Dodson accounted for the other run with a single up the middle that brought Kush home.

Canisius put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth, plating five runs to grab an 11-2 lead.
A single through the right side by Vincent scored the first run of the inning before Grant ripped a two-run triple to right field. RBI singles from Rumley and Kush brought home the final two runs of the game.
