Women's Lacrosse Stumbles in Loss at Siena

Siena outscored Canisius, 11-4, over the final three quarters to record a 15-8 victory in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Hickey Field in Loudonville, N.Y.

Siena improved to 9-4 overall and remained undefeated in conference action at 4-0. Canisius moved to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in MAAC play with the loss.

Kelly Logue led the Saints attack with five goals and an assist for six points, with her teammate Jordan Bentley chipping in three scores of her own to pair with an assist for four points. Bentley also notched seven draw controls while Madyson Kolligan picked up a game-high three ground balls and caused four turnovers. In net, reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Sabrina Krasner made 10 saves.

Canisius was paced by graduate student Skylar McArthur and junior Riley Davis, who netted two goals each in the loss. For McArthur, she amassed seven draw controls while junior Catherine Wall picked up two ground balls. In net, freshman Jody Chu made four saves.

Down 3-1 with less than seven minutes to go in the first quarter, the Griffs would score three straight goals, with McArthur, Davis and junior Caroline Netti each finding the back of the net, to propel the Griffs back into the lead, 4-3, with 3:56 left to play in the first quarter.

A late Siena goal from Katy Wangsness would tie the score at 4-all heading into the second frame.

The Saints carried their momentum from the late Wangsness goal into the second quarter as they tallied two goals in the opening three minutes to retake the lead, 6-4. A goal from graduate student Kaitlyn Salce would bring the Griffs to within one but Siena would keep the Griffs scoreless for the rest of the frame while netting two goals of their own to head to the locker room ahead, 8-5.

After falling behind, 11-5, off three early Saints goals, the Griffs would notch back-to-back scores, courtesy of graduate student Ivy Santana and senior Paige Stachura, to cut the deficit to 11-7. Siena would score the final goal of the third to extend their lead back to five, 12-7.

Canisius mustered one final goal in the fourth, courtesy of McArthur's second of the contest, but Siena would tally three of their own to seal the victory.

Postgame Comments from Head Coach Russell Allen:
We ran into a really strong Siena team today and did not play a complete 60 minutes. We have a quick turnaround to refocus on our fundamentals and get back at it on Saturday
