• Last Time Out
Canisius extended its unbeaten streak to seven games after going 5-0-1 and 4-0 in conference play last week. The Griffs defeated Fairfield by scores of 4-3 and 7-1 before sweeping Iona, 4-1 and 6-1 on Sunday to improve to 8-2 in league play.

Sophomore Rosie Gomez hit a walk-off home run in the eighth inning over Fairfield in game one before hitting a two-run shot in the opening frame of game two to help the Griffs sweep the Stags.

On Sunday, junior Sydney Costan drove in all four runs in the 4-1 victory over Iona before Gomez slugged in the go-ahead two run double in the fifth inning to help Canisius to its second sweep of the weekend.

Graduate Alexis Churchill earned a pair of victories on the weekend, giving her four conference wins in four starts. The southpaw allowed just one earned run across 12 innings against the Stags and Gaels

• Giese and Gomez Earn Weekly Awards
Gomez had a week to remember offensively, driving in three go-ahead runs to help Canisius to four conference wins and five victories on the week.

On Sunday, Gomez had a pair of RBI doubles in the Griffs 6-1 win over Iona to complete the sweep.

For the week, Gomez went 9-for-20 with nine RBI, two doubles and two home runs with a .455 on-base percentage and a .850 slugging percentage.

Junior Megan Giese was dominant in the circle in all five of her appearances during the week, going 2-0 with two saves while pitching to a 1.31 ERA.

The righty earned her first save of the week against St. Bonaventure after hitting a go-ahead pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh before striking out the side.

During the weekend, Giese struck out 10 batters in her starts against both Fairfield and Iona, picking up the wins. She has now eclipsed double digit strikeouts in four straight starts against MAAC opponents.

On the week, Giese struck out 30 batters in 21.1 innings of work, allowing just four earned runs on nine hits and four walks.

The award was Gomez's first of her career while Giese has now earned the conference's Pitcher of the Week title for the sixth time in her career and second time this season.

Canisius also earned Player and Pitcher of the Week honors in the same week last season Giese and junior Gianna Fazzolari were named to the respective awards on Feb. 22.
