Four Softball Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

Canisius softball players Alyssa Cloutier, Rosie Gomez, Ella Johel and Olivia Manchester have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Softball Team, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.

All of the Academic All-District award winners were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Among the four Canisius student-athletes honored this year, Johel was chosen to advance to the national ballot, which will be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 17.

Cloutier, a two-time MAAC All-Academic honoree, ended her three-year career as a Golden Griffin by hitting a career-best .305 in 2025, where she scored 29 runs and drove in 10 RBI. In her 125 career games in Blue and Gold, she swiped 54 bases, with 21 of those steals coming in her senior year. The Derwood, Md., native graduated from Canisius last month with her undergraduate degree in animal behavior, ecology and conservation.

Gomez, one of the best power-hitters in program history, closed out her four-year career on Main Street with 25 career homers, which ranks second in the school's record book. In her senior season, the All-MAAC First-Team selection hit .317 with 10 homers, six doubles, 15 runs scored and 35 runs batted in. For her career, the three-time All-MAAC honoree hit .313 and drove in 110 runs, which ranks eighth in program history. She graduated from the University last month with her degree in sports and exercise health care.

An All-MAAC First-Team honoree and a 2025 NFCA All-Northeast Region Second-Team selection, Johel started all 52 games for the Griffs in 2025, where she hit a team-best .395. Overall, the East Amherst, N.Y., native ranked in the top-five in the MAAC in eight different offensive categories, including batting average, hits (68), doubles (15), triples (9), RBI (45), slugging percentage (.674) and OPS (1.101). Her 15 doubles are tied for the fourth-most by a Canisius player in a single-season and her nine triples ties her for third-best in the nation.

Johel, who majoring in special education grades 1-6 at the University, led Canisius with 22 multi-hit games and she drove in multiple RBI in 12 contests, which led the team. Of her team-high 45 RBI on the season, 22 of those came with two outs.

Manchester led the Griffs and tied for third in the MAAC with her 17 wins in the circle in 2025, where she made 30 appearances and 23 starts. She closed out the season with 17 complete-games, two shutouts, a 3.86 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 147.0 innings of work, while also fanning 109 batters. Just the eighth pitcher in school history to win 16-or more games in a season, the Folsom, Calif., native became the third Canisius pitcher since 2021 to earn a victory in the circle in her first MAAC Softball Championship tournament start after she helped the Blue and Gold defeat Sacred Heart, 1-0, in the opening round of the conference tournament last month. A sophomore at the University, Manchester is majoring in biochemistry.
