Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Opens Conference Play With Split at Marist

Sophomore Rosie Gomez had a career day at the plate, slugging a pair of three-run home runs en route to Canisius' 12-3 win over Marist in game one before Kiley Myers tossed five shutout frames in the Red Foxes' 8-0 victory as the team's earned a split in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action from the Softball Park in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Game 1 Recap
Canisius got out to a fast lead when sophomore Saige Alfaro opened the contest with a single, sending junior Christie McGee-Ross to the plate.

McGee-Ross connected on her first career home run to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

After Marist responded with a run of their own in the home half of the frame, Canisius added to its lead with a five-run third.

With the bases loaded, backstop Gianna Fazzolari scored Alfaro on a sacrifice fly.

Later in the inning, Gomez slugged a ball to centerfield for her second homer of the season, extending Canisius' lead to 6-1.

In the very next at bat, junior Destiny Falquez hit a homer of her own, making it a 7-1 ballgame.

Leading 7-3 in the fifth, Falquez added to her RBI total with a two-run single through the left side of the infield.

Gomez capped off her career day at the plate in the sixth when she blasted her second three-run shot of the game, putting Canisius out in front, 12-3.

Junior Megan Giese earned her seventh win of the season, striking out six batters across the six inning complete game for the Griffs.

Game 2 Recap
Unlike the opening contest, game two was all Marist as the Red Foxes plated eight runs on 10 hits in the mercy-rule victory.

Leading 1-0, Marist plated a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by Peyton Pusey's solo home run to give the Red Foxes a 4-0 lead.

Marist completed the mercy-rule win in the fifth with three-straight singles off the bats of Haley Ahr, Maddie Pleasants and Alyssa Grupp for the walk-off victory.

Sophomore Toria Kover took the loss for the Griffs, allowing a pair of earned runs in three innings of action.
