Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Wagner on Senior Day

Wagner scored the final four goals of the game to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat Canisius, 10-8, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Jack Brady and Benjamin Stewart each recorded hat tricks to pace the Seahawks attack (3-10, 2-6 MAAC). Conor Julich chipped in two goals while Matt Rueter was 7-of-9 at the faceoff X.

Freshman Kevin Carney posted a hat trick and added an assist for the Golden Griffins (2-12, 1-7 MAAC). Junior Keegan Kozack scored two goals while sophomore Patrick Mitchell tallied three points on a goal and two assists. Sophomore goalie Tommy Kunz made 14 saves between the pipes for the Griffs.

Trailing 8-6 late in the third quarter, Stewart tallied his third of the contest to make it a one-goal game heading into the fourth.

The Seahawks carried their momentum into the final frame as Julich found the back of the net just 38 seconds into the fourth to tie the game before Patrick Caldwell struck at 12:24 mark to give Wagner a 9-8 lead.

Brady provided the Seahawks some breathing room when completed his hat trick a little more than four minutes later.

That proved to be all the support that Wagner would need as it limited Canisius to just two shot attempts in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Earlier in the contest, the Griffs opened the game with goals from Mitchell and Carney before Wagner countered with a pair of markers to tie the game midway through the opening frame.

The teams traded tallies before Carney buried his second of the frame in the final second of first to give the Griffs a 4-3 lead after one.

A man-up goal from Kozack opened the second-quarter scoring and put Canisius up by a pair for the second time in the game. Goals from Brady and Stewart less than three minutes apart allowed Wagner to knot the score at 5-all, only to see junior Hunter Parucki score the final goal of the first half at the 6:46 mark to give Canisius a 6-5 advantage at the half.

Stewart opened the third-quarter scoring to bring the Seahawks level, 6-6. Canisius had an answer, however, with Carney completing his hat trick and junior Ryan Furlong netting his second of the season to put the Griffs back in front, 8-6, setting the stage for the Seahawks' game-closing run.
