Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Sweeps St. Bonaventure Tuesday

Graduate Dylan Vincent's three-run homer in game one helped ignite a five-run third inning while junior Carlin Dick hit a game-winning pinch-hit two run shot in the fifth frame of the second game to help Canisius sweep St. Bonaventure by scores of 6-3 and 10-4 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference collegiate baseball action from Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field in Olean, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins (12-15) have now won eight straight games over the Bonnies (5-22) dating back to the 2017 campaign.

Game One Recap
Trailing 2-0 heading into the third inning, Canisius' bats came alive when it batted around in the frame.

Following a leadoff single from graduate Kyle Kush, freshman Tommy Sheridan was plunked by a 1-0 pitch from Bonnies starter Jonny Lintell, sending Vincent to the plate.

The fifth year clobbered the fifth pitch he saw, sending it over the center field fence to put the Griffs up, 3-2.

Canisius added two more runs in the inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from senior Mike DeStefano and a single to center off the bat of senior Kenny Dodson.

Holding a 5-3 lead in the sixth, the Griffs tacked on an insurance marker on sophomore Trent Rumley's pinch-hit infield single to plate freshman Mason Cisco.

The Canisius bullpen shut down St. Bonaventure's bats, holding them to just one hit over the final five innings of the game.

Junior Levi Abbott earned his second victory of the campaign, striking out a pair while yielding an unearned run in two innings of work.

Sophomore Peyton Consigli tossed a scoreless seventh to pick up his second save of the season.

Game Two Recap
The Griffs were able to capitalize on the Bonnies' defensive miscues throughout the second game as the first four runs were able to come across as a result of an error or errant pitch.

Holding a 4-0 lead in the fifth, junior Carlin Dick stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter with one on in the inning.

On the 11th pitch he saw, Dick slugged the pitch over the right-center fence to put the Griffs up 6-0.

The Bonnies looked to mount a comeback with a three-run frame in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the visitor's lead in half.

After scoring the seventh run of the ballgame on a throwing error in the sixth, Canisius put the game out of hand in the top of the seventh with a three-run inning to put double digits on the scoreboard.

Dick knocked in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center before Kush had an RBI groundout to second later in the inning.

Senior Brennan Chisholm scored the 10th run of the game on a passed ball in the very next at bat.

Graduate Andrew Fron tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in the start for Canisius, allowing just two hits.
