Men's Lacrosse Earns Three MAAC Weekly Awards

The Canisius men's lacrosse team took home three of a possible four TicketSmarter Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse weekly awards, the league office announced Monday. Colin Kelly was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Tommy Kunz was the Defensive Player of the Week and Micah Hanson was tabbed the circuits Face-Off Player of the Week.
 
This is the first time the Golden Griffins have taken home two-or-more men's lacrosse weekly awards in the same week since April 4, 2022, when Johnny Richiusa was named the leagues face-off and defensive player of the week. This is also the second consecutive week at least one member of the Blue and Gold won a weekly honor as Kevin Carney garnered Rookie of the Week honors the prior week
 
Kelly tallied nine goals to help lead the Griffs to a pair of victories last week, finding the back of the net on 75 percent of his shots on goal (9-of-12) while pitched in 10 ground balls. The Syracuse, N.Y., native tallied two goals and added five ground balls in Canisius' 13-5 victory over Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on March 14. Later in the week, Kelly finished with a career high seven goals in Canisius' 18-16 victory over Marist on March 18 with six of his seven goals came during the first half. Kelly tallied the most goals in a game by a Canisius player since the 1996 season with his seven-goal performance against the Red Foxes.
 
Kunz recorded 29 saves and a .580 save percentage in helping lead Canisius to a pair of victories last week. He Allowed a season-low five goals against and made 15 saves in a 13-5 triumph against Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure on March 14. The Birmingham, Mich., native recorded 15 stops in the Griffs' 18-16 victory versus Marist on March 18.
 
Hanson won .603 percent of his draws in helping lead Canisius to a pair of wins last weekend while going35-of-58 at the face-off X while also recording a team-best 20 ground balls. The Black Earth, Wis., also finished with two assists during the week. Hanson went 16-of-21 at the X and finished with a season-high 11 ground balls in Canisius' 13-5 triumph against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on March 14 while also dished out an assist in the victory versus the Bonnies. Hanson was aslo 19-of-37 on draws in an 18-16 victory versus Marist on March 18, scooped up nine ground balls and also dished out an assist.
 
Canisius is back in action on March 25 as they travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to face Manhattan, with opening face-off set for 12 p.m.
